Center for Biomedical Research
The Center for Biomedical Research (CBR & CBR2) is a 20,433 square foot state of the art animal research facility and is responsible for the care of animals used in research. CBR contains 17 animal holding rooms, one quarantine room and 4 bio-hazard rooms. All bio-hazard rooms have Class 2 Biological Safety Cabinets in them. CBR has 6 procedure rooms. There is also a surgical suite composed of a prep room, scrub room and a surgery room. CBR has a dedicated mouse behavioral study suite as well as a rat behavioral study suite. Temperatures in the animal rooms can be controlled between 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity between 30 percent and 80 percent. The facility has a 100 percent back-up system in the event of a power failure.
The CBR is accredited by AAALAC International, a private, non-profit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science.
