Ten Percent Society
Founded in 1982, The University of North Dakota 10% Society is the oldest Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, & Queer organization in the state of North Dakota. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, respectful & supportive environment for GLBTQ Students, Faculty, Staff, & Members of the greater Grand Forks community.
Grand Forks, ND is a fast growing and rapidly changing city. The community here is full of respectful, honest, and helpful individuals more often willing to go out of their way to help others then not. While North Dakota as a state does not yet have any legal protections with regards to sexual orientation and/or gender identity, it has been shown on countless occasions that it is a concern to many in our community here.
In early 2013, TPS began working with the UND Law Clinic as well as many city council members to begin changing this fact for our residents. In June of 2013, the City Council adopted protections for all City employees with regards to sexual orientation and gender identity. In October of 2013, we made yet another stride towards equality by approving a Safe Housing Ordinance to help protect those living here from discrimination. While the community still has many steps to take, there are more and more people joining the cause every day, and Grand Forks, ND is moving in the right direction.
