The University of North Dakota is the most frequently geo-tagged location on Instagram in North Dakota, according to TIME Magazine.
UND’s location-based Instagram features the snow-laden campus scenery prominently, joining — the University of Kansas, Mississippi State University and Brown University on TIME’s interactive map, which highlights the top Instagram attraction in each state.
“This distinction shows the growing popularity of #myUND, thanks to the prominence of social media on our home page and display TVs throughout campus,” UND web managing editor Tera Buckley said. “We’re providing our community an avenue to share their UND story and it’s working!”
Buckley says UND has been particularly successful on Instagram because it enables authentic story-telling and large audience base — the “myUND” hashtag is fueled by student posts, that, for the past semester, have been displayed prominently on the UND webpage.
“Being recognized by Time is especially cool because Instagram is fairly new for us,” Buckley said. “Of course many people were active on Instagram long before promoting #myUND, but in just one semester we made the top spot in the state. This shows that people genuinely want to share their UND experiences."
